Agrievolution Alliance will present the results of the most recent surveys of Alliance members that represent over 6,000 agricultural equipment manufacturers worldwide.

Surveys of Agrievolution members have recently been conducted to determine the overall trends and effect of the virus on agricultural equipment manufacturing by world region.  This gives the Alliance a unique global overview of the impact on the agriculture equipment manufacturing industry. Currently, all regions are seeing manufacturing facilities being closed due to Covid-19.  Two regions report at least 40% closure with India reporting significant closings between 61-80%.  Six regions report closings ranging from 21 – 40%, with four reporting facilities closing between 1-20%. 100% of regions now report disruption in the agriculture equipment manufacturing supply chains, illustrating a significant change from the previous two weeks.  Nine countries now report some disruptions with Brazil and Japan reporting that many suppliers are not able to fill orders.

Ukraine's wheat, barley harvest wraps up, misses USDA forecast

Ukraine’s 2020 harvests of wheat and barley will fall short of USDA estimates, data from the country’s agricultural ministry released Friday evening suggest.

The domestic wheat harvest has been completed on 6.3 million ha or 96% of the planted area, with 25.5 million mt gathered, the data shows.

This suggests the harvest will undershoot the USDA's latest forecast for 27.5 million since yields are unlikely to improve significantly from current levels in the final phases of the harvest.

The totals are also 10.5% lower than at the same stage of 2019 when 99% of fields were tilled and 28.2 million mt of wheat were harvested.

For barley, 99% of fields or 2.4 million ha have been harvested, with 8.6 million mt already in the bins.

This is down 4% on the same period in 2019 when 9.2 million mt were gathered from 2.59 million ha or 99% of the planted areas.

The USDA has forecasted Ukrainian barley output at 9.2 million mt for the 2020/21 marketing year.

In addition, harvest of the rapeseed crop has been completed on 1.07 million ha (96%), which equates to 2.5 million mt.

FDA Issues Update Regarding Information Presented at Talc Public Meeting August 18, 2020 The U.S. Food and Drug Administration today issued an update intended to provide additional clarity regarding information posted on our website and discussed at a public meeting earlier this year regarding testing methods for asbestos in cosmetic products containing talc. On Feb. 4, 2020, the FDA held a public meeting to discuss and obtain scientific data and information on topics related to cosmetic products that contain talc as an ingredient, including testing methodologies, terminology, and criteria that could be applied to characterize and measure asbestos and other potentially harmful elongate mineral particles (also known as EMPs) that may be present as contaminants in such products. The meeting included presentations by members of an interagency working group called the Interagency Working Group on Asbestos in Consumer Products or IWGACP as well as other stakeholders. The FDA also opened a public docket for comments on these topics. As part of the meeting materials, the FDA made available an Executive Summary titled “Preliminary Recommendations on Testing Methods for Asbestos in Talc and Consumer Products Containing Talc” by the IWGACP. Neither the Executive Summary nor any of the presentations at the public meeting by members of the IWGACP represent proposed or preliminary recommendations or policies of FDA or any other federal agency. Recently, the FDA was made aware of concerns that some external parties may consider the Executive Summary to be FDA recommendations. As a result, we are announcing the availability of new content to FDA’s webpage for cosmetics and talc to clarify the intent of the Executive Summary, and to address information provided in connection with the public meeting. Specifically, the update is intended to clarify that the Executive Summary and related presentations at the public meeting were meant solely to solicit scientific feedback on the issues raised and should not be used for any other purpose. The FDA and members of the IWGACP continue to evaluate the scientific literature and public feedback to the docket and do not have any recommendations at this time. Should the FDA decide to develop recommendations with respect to standards or testing methods for asbestos in talc, as a result of the information it received as part of the public meeting and comments to the public docket or otherwise, it would issue draft guidance for public comment. Likewise, the FDA would propose any related regulations through a public notice and comment process.
